Reasons

I wrote down persuasive texts.

First I chose what I was going to argue about why we should have less school time. Then I went on to multiple websites to find some reasons about my topic

Afterwards I wrote down my ideas and put in an explanation for each of my topics on why we should have less school time.

To finish up I linked all of the websites I used to find information from to each one of my topics.

I learned a lot about why we should have less school time

Persuasive Writing

I Learned persuasive writing.

First I watched 2 videos on what persuasive writing is. It talks about what persuasive writing is and how to use it. Then I finished watching the videos.

Afterwards I got a document and brainstormed some ideas about school, self, and world using traffic light colors. The traffic light colors are green, red, and yellow. Green means go forward, red means to stop, and yellow means slow down.

To finish up we got into partners then we went through each other's ideas.

I learned a lot about what persuasive writing is and how to use it.

Cause and Effect

This week I wrote cause and effect sentences.

I started off by putting back an explanation back together, stage one was about eggs, the second stage was about the caterpillars, the third stage was about chrysalis, and the fourth stage was about the butterflies.

Then I made sentences that used cause and effect in them as well as using causal language in the sentences.

This task helped me learn more about causes and effects and how to use causal language.

Americas Cup

My group and I found information on Americas cup.

The first thing I did was the main ideas the main ideas is were you watch videos about Americas cup and find some ideas for who what when and why.

After doing the main events I did the summerising. The summerising is were I write 20 important words from the main ideas and then write in 6 important words and then use them to create sentences in the summery box.

Last I did the evaluation slide were we copy and paste the summery into the first box of the evaluation slide then in the second box we write down what interesting facts we learnt from reading the text. Finally I did the third box were we write down what questions we have after reading the text.

Theses strategies are useful because summerising can help you improve with memorizing things, the main ideas can help with who, what, when and why.

Handwriting

I did a writing can-do to improve my handwriting.

First I watched the videos to get an idea on how to write neatly.

Then I wrote the whole alphabet, and the symbols neatly.

I really enjoyed this can-do, but I need to work on my w because I keep on making a curved bottom instead of a sharp bottom.

Commanding Conversation

Commanding Conversation is a can do for writing.

You write a short story that's about 3 or 4 sentences using an image to write about.

I used two images to write two conversations. The first one was about two girls going to the movies and the second one I did was about 1 kid being mean to another and the third kid telling the mean girl to stop.

This was fun because I really enjoyed writing conversations with the pictures and I got to learn more about how to use punctuation.

Kapa Haka performance

Today we had a  performance on our school stage.

When the performance group  came through the door they played a putara for their entrance ceremony. The performance group did different maori dances which used ti rakau, poi, taiaha.

Next they explained how to use them and what they were for.

They also performed a haka for the school, then the kapa haka boys also performed a haka for the people and the parents who came.

At the end we played a game called Maui and matou. Maui means left and matou means right. To play this game you have to have a stick and when someone says Maui you let go of your stick and go to the other one near you and it is the same for matou.

Screen Play | Writing

Screenplays are the only the parts of a story that are speech.

Screenplays have the scene names, names of the person speaking, what they are saying, and how the person should be speaking. Sometimes screenplays give short sentences that tell what the actors should do.

The scene name tells what the scene will be about. By writing the name of the person it shows who will be speaking, but the person's name is written in all capitals.

This we interesting to find out how screenplays work.

Formal and Informal

Formality tells people when to use formal or informal language at the right time.

Formal is when you have to follow the rules and respect people like when someone special comes to the school you have to be nice.

Informal is when you don't need to follow any rules and don't need to be respectful like when your  friends come over.

Formal and informal are the opposite of each other.

Fox - Gorilla | Gruffalo

Rewriting means replacing somethings in a story to see how different the story would be like.

The questions in the story give ideas to help change things and rewrite the story.

The fox was changed to a gorilla because the story would have big change and it would have been interesting. Also because they kinda have the same personality.

Rewriting a story can help have more creativity and be enjoyable.

Gruffalo | Setting Description

A setting is the environment in a story. It can include what it smells, sounds, feels, and looks like

When describing what a pace looks like, it needs to include adjectives such as dirty, Clean, Fresh etc.

When describing what a place sounds like, it also needs to include adjectives like quiet, loud, and etc.

To describe what a place smells like it needs to include adjectives as rotten, clean, and etc.

To describe what a place feels like it needs to include adjectives as rough, bumpy, uneven, etc.

This strategy can help people get picture inside the readers head as they connect with the four senses.

Metaphors

Metaphors are to compare between two things. They compere two things directly. Metaphors are comparison.

The three main things about a metaphor is the comparison, meaning and the main object.

Example: The mans stomach was a bottom less pit. The comparison is the bottom less pit. The man is the object. The meaning is the man was hungry.

Metaphors help describe things like tired, hungry, sleepy etc.

After that we did an activity called punctuation challenge. We created sentences and used all 11 punctuation marks. We did this with as few sentences as we could.

L.I. To identify correct use of different punctuation.
