Americas Cup

My group and I found information on Americas cup.

The first thing I did was the main ideas the main ideas is were you watch videos about Americas cup and find some ideas for who what when and why.

After doing the main events I did the summerising. The summerising is were I write 20 important words from the main ideas and then write in 6 important words and then use them to create sentences in the summery box.

Last I did the evaluation slide were we copy and paste the summery into the first box of the evaluation slide then in the second box we write down what interesting facts we learnt from reading the text. Finally I did the third box were we write down what questions we have after reading the text.

Theses strategies are useful because summerising can help you improve with memorizing things, the main ideas can help with who, what, when and why.

Prototec

I completed a Prototec sheet.

I did stage 6 and I got most of the questions right expect for the 1000’s box.

Next time I will try and get better at my 1000’ and get all the questions right and go onto a higher level like stage 7.

The Highway Rat

LS1 did drawing on a book called the highway rat.

We listen to the story than we drew them into boxes by visualizing.

Visualizing means when you imagine something in your head that someone tells you about to get a clear idea in your head.

Visualization is important because its easier to identify things.

This story is about a rat that likes to steal other peoples food, everyone was terrified of him but a duck had an idea to get rid of the rat. The duck told the rat that there was a cave were her sister made baked goods. He went in the cave and got trapped he got out but on the opposite side and he got a job at a bakery sweeping floors.

When I compared mine to else's there were some differences they had more detail than I did.

AFL

Group B did AFL, AFL is short for Australian Football League. On the field we practiced some things that we did a few weeks ago.

We started off by doing the drop punt to see how we improved, we had the laces away from our faces and made an M and placed it on the X.Then we practiced on our hand ball to see what we improved and we used the same techniques we used last time like the dinner pate, using our fist etc.

Then our couch showed us some different skills tip off were you get into a group of 3 and one person throws it in the air and hit the ball before your partner. The next skill we did was tackling were you aim for your partners hips and then
put your hands around them and tackle them.

I need to work on my tip off because my partner keeps hitting the ball before me.

Place Value and Saying Numbers

Place value us a system that groups numbers based on their size.

The position of a digit determines its value. When we say numbers we group then within the same house. For example 15709 has fifteen thousands, seven hundreds ad nine ones.

Understanding our base 10 place value system allows us to pronounce big numbers properly. It also allows us to identify numbers before and after.

Mihi Whakatau

Mihi Whakatau is a Maori term for a formal greeting.

Mihi Whakatau is traditionally used for welcoming, introductions and openings. It is undertaken by the Tangata Whenua (local inhabitant).

The Mihi needs to acknowledge the significant aspects to the place. The Maunga (mountain), Awa (river), and Iwi (tribe) are generally used.

Introducing Ingoa (name), Oki tipuna (ancestor place) and where you live is important for the audience to understand the position of the speaker.

Manuhiri is the term used to describe or group the visitors that are being welcomed. It is important to end with warm welcome so the visitors know that there is no hostility in the 2 groups being together.

I enjoyed doing this because I got to learn how to greet someone in Maori in a formal way.

I decided that I would comment on his SSR Selfie about Alex Rider Storm Breaker. Then I asked him a question.

Mahdi then replied to my comment and question, he also asked me a question to keep the thread going.

I thanked Mahdi for replying to my comment and asked him my final question.

Mahdi answer my question, then he ended the thread.

SSR Selfie | The Babysitters Club

I read 5 chapters of a book called The Babysitters Club by Raina Telgemeier and Ann M. Martin.

The book is about 4 girls that have made a babysitters cub. They have everything set up for there club. Advertisements, meetings and calls. You can always count on them to save the day.

I think that this book was interesting to read and can't wait to read the rest of the books.

LI: to summarise and retell a text.

Print Desgin Rules

I learnt about print design rules. They are composition, layout, color and text. I practiced my print design rules by creating a poster.

First I took everything off the page, and though of what I wanted to do.

Then I rearranged everything to make it look like how I wanted it, then I added a margin, Lastly I changed the font's and the colors.

I enjoyed doing this because I learnt how to use print design rules.

Handwriting

I did a writing can-do to improve my handwriting.

First I watched the videos to get an idea on how to write neatly.

Then I wrote the whole alphabet, and the symbols neatly.

I really enjoyed this can-do, but I need to work on my w because I keep on making a curved bottom instead of a sharp bottom.

LI: to write neatly

Basic Facts Boxes

I did basic facts boxes up to 5.

The time I got was 2 minutes and 57 seconds. I got 100 out of 100. I am really proud of my time and score but next time i will try and get a lower time and go on a higher level like 10.

AFL Training

Group A and B did AFL training, witch is short for Australian Football League. We went on to the field and did some skills to play Aussie rules.

Our couch Mike showed us how to do the handball, (passing the ball). To do the hand ball you use your fist to pass the ball and your dinner plate is to keep the ball in place, then you pass with your fist on the x

Then Mike showed us how to do the drop pot (kicking the ball). To do the drop pot you face the ball down and laces away from faces, and make sure that you make a M with your hand and place it on the x then you kick on the x.

After doing those skills we played octopus with our passing skills. Then we played another game called smash the teacher, were we try and hit the teacher using the skill drop pot.

I really enjoyed playing AFL, and playing octopus and smash the teacher, but i need to work on my drop pot.

The 3 P's

LS1 learnt about the 3 Ps in the Treaty of Waitangi and how they apply to our learning.

First Mr Ogilvie introduced the 3 Ps in the Treaty of Waitangi, they are protection, partnership and participation.

Then in groups we wrote statements about the 3 Ps in LS1. LS1 figured out the 3 Ps are all connected.

After that we used our group ideas and thought about how they connected to me.

The 3 statements that I chose connected to me because I need to participate in more things, look after my property and help people.

Prototec

Today I used prototec to test out my knowledge.

I did stage 6. Stage six has a mix of division, addition, and subtraction

I got most of the answers right but I have to work on my division and addition on a 1000's.
