Inquiry | Understanding Materials

Insulators help the heat to move from one place another place like a wall.

The best material that can keep hot and cold is polystyrene.

The best material that can keep things cold is plastic, paper, polystyrene

This was a interesting because it was fun to experiment the difference of hot and cold.

Skim and scan mean reading through the text quickly and finding keywords.

I chose the 3 keywords and then put in an image to match the definition. The I look back in the book and found 4 facts.

Experimenting | Inquiry

This week for inquiry we experimented with different martial's to see witch material could absorb the most amount of water and to learn how to conduct precise experiment.

First we chose the material that we wanted to use. My group chose nappy brand 2 Then we got 100ml of water into a cup. Then we put in 5 drops of food coloring.

Then We got a tray and put the nappy inside. After we got the water we slowly poured it onto the nappy. After that we lifted it up and saw that no water was left and all of the water was absorbed.

I really enjoyed this task because I got to see how it happend.

Formal and Informal

Formality tells people when to use formal or informal language at the right time.

Formal is when you have to follow the rules and respect people like when someone special comes to the school you have to be nice.

Informal is when you don't need to follow any rules and don't need to be respectful like when your  friends come over.

Formal and informal are the opposite of each other.

We highlighted the words that we knew in in blue. Then the ones that we didn't know stayed in black. We used the Maori dictionary to search for the ones that we didn't know.

Then we revised numbers, words, and  the date. We also learnt the words to describe the weather.

I enjoyed this because I got to learn new words in Maori.
